Connecting to Place. Kaurna Then and Now

We have had a busy year running workshops on Country and incursions at sites around Adelaide and will finish the year with a big event in the Adelaide CBD, 
'Connecting to Place. Kaurna Then and Now' - ticket sales that will open on October 18th at 8.40 am 
'Connecting to Place. Kaurna Then and Now' will take participants across three sites within the central business district, each with ongoing deep significance to Kaurna. After a Welcome to Country three buses will transport groups between each site where Kaurna Elders and younger presenters will share the history and ongoing stories connected to each place. Activities and games at each of the three workshop sites will provide additional levels of understanding and engagement for children while adults will receive booklets providing more in-depth information about each location.

Our aim is for participants young and old to leave with an age-appropriate understanding of the impact of colonisation, to connect with each place as learners, and to be open to discovering the profound ongoing Cultural significance of everyday places.

It will be a day of fun, engagement, participation and learning for all.

Community Impact Grant

After a long wait we have just been advised that our application for a City of Adelaide grant was successful! 
We are now planning an event across three significant Kaurna sites in the Adelaide CBD with buses to ferry people between. The ParkLands Events team has just approved our request for Sunday May 15th, so keep the afternoon free!

Walking Together with Kaurna event welcomed by community

Mitcham Council celebrated the success of our May 2nd family event at Wirraparinga with an article in their online community news. A second event the following weekend, also funded by the council and fully booked, was further indication that this learning experience is valued by the community. We hope to be invited to host this event again in the future.

This week we were mentioned in Parliament!

After generously printing our Wirraparinga family event booklets, Sam Duluk (State Member for Waite) attended the May 2nd event and spent time connecting with the presenters and observing the cultural experiences families were involved in. Several weeks later during his address to parliament he spoke of his experience and the importance of these events in our journey toward Reconciliation.

Professional Development Workshops for (EChO) Early Childhood Organisation

On May 20th we held 2 workshops for groups of educators at Morialta.

The sessions combined Kaurna culture, language and knowledge of that area as well as conversation around curriculum inclusion, pedagogy of place, the Uluru Statement from the Heat and the role of educators in Makarrata.

We Acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the Traditional Custodians of this Country. We Acknowledge their connection to land and community and pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging. Our workshops occur on Kaurna land; Always was, always will be.
